“How do I get onto the first page on Google?”

How do I get better Google rankings?

“What do I have to do to be found by Google?”

These are three of the first questions we are asked when talking about online marketing here in Australia.

How do i get better Google search ranking?

GetSticky is all about getting better Google rankings; so much so that we now bundle it into all web design. While we aren’t ready to give away all our trade secrets to better search engine optimisation in this post, we are very happy to share this simple guide to improving your Google page rankings (you will have to make an appointment to find out the rest).

We have broken good SEO down to the Three C’s – Code, Content and Connections.

Code refers to the language your site is written in and the code behind many of the banners, tabs and headlines. Put simply, some website platforms are good for search engine optimisation, while others are useless.

If you are considering a new website and are shopping around for a designer, look at some of the sites they have designed and then do a Google search for terms around those particular industries. Not the actual company name (they should rank No.1 for that anyway, even though many don’t), but keywords the average searcher would type in if looking for an unknown company in that industry. If the site in question doesn’t come up on the first page of Google for a few relevant searches then chances are the web designer is using a Google-unfriendly platform. Either that or they have no idea about SEO.

Content: Google loves words, especially relevant words for your site and industry. Its crucial that you populate your site with the sort of content Google is looking for. If you have a Flash site you can stop reading now and start calling your web designer for a “please explain” because unfortunately Google can’t read your site.

We cannot emphasise enough how important it is for you to have good and regular content on your website if you want to achieve better Google rankings. Heard the phrase “content is King” before? Well, it applies to search engine optimisation too.

Connections refers to the links coming in and out of your site to other high ranking sites. Most web designers (and their customers) pay absolutely no attention to links and connections and have bad Google rankings as a result.

If Google sees that you have a lot of strong links to and from your site it basically thinks your site must be more important and relevant to more people. Typical isn’t it, the popular guy or gal always gets the most attention. Same with websites.

So there you have it. Better Google rankings are that simple. And that hard. And that’s before we even get started on the new Google Chrome. Read more here and here and here about Chrome.
